"This GP surgery is full of very helpful and kind staff. However, it is not possible to make an appointment to see a GP anymore. You have to fill out an econsult form online and wait for the doctor to call you. The doctor will then decide if they need to see you or not. This seems like a good idea until you get tired of never speaking to a health professional face to face. I live with others so speaking over the phone is not always an option. They also never specify what time the GP will call you. I an a student and it is not possible for me to be by my phone for a whole day waiting for a call. My mother doesn't speak English so her GP has to call me to discuss her issues. Since I am a student, I am not always with my mum. So if the doctor calls and my mum is not around since she doesn't know what time they'll be calling, I am unable to answer detailed questions about her care that she hasn't told me about. I am also in charge of the care of 4 younger siblings. The issue rings true for them as well. This system makes it unlike for me to contact the GP until my situation is bad.
Also, the receptions making medical decisions based on basic information I have given over the phone is not helpful. Telling me to see a pharmacist who refuses to give medications without a prescription (boots) is not helpful. The receptionists don't know my medical history, so no a fever is not necessary a minor ailment if I an immune problem."
