"In the past week I have had 2 occasions to try to make an appointment. Firstly for me, as I work full time it is impossible to book when at work as I cannot be waiting to initially get through & then have a doctor call me to assess whether I need to see them, so I waited for a day off! After taking 45 minutes to get through I then was on hold for a further 20 minutes until able to speak to the reception. I was then told I would have to wait for a phone appointment some time between 4.30 & 5.30. I found this appointment totally impersonal, never being able to see or speak to the same doctor twice. Today my son was home from work, he tried for 2 hours until getting the message only emergency appointment available. He gave up. Even I could see how inflamed & swollen his tonsils were so walked to the surgery in Winsley only to be told he could have a nurse appointment tomorrow morning. He was hoping not to have another day off work but now has no choice. There was only one person waiting in the surgery, It appears to me that the system is now completely broken down, doctors are spending too much time on impersonal phone calls which surely must cost much needed money. The same day appointment system just isnât practical a) for workers like me who want to book when they know they have a day off b) with everyone trying to make an appointment for that day the phone is just constantly engaged! No wonder patients get irritated!"

Dr Ko Ko Laing qualified in 1989, his previous surgery in Victory Road merged with the Portsdown Group in April 2010. He is a highly experienced GP, is based in Kingston Crescent Surgery he has a number of special interest which includes medicine, rheumatology and joint injections. He is a keen tennis player and also enjoys travel.

Dr Peter Kipgen

Dr Kipgen qualified from Barts and the London Medical School in 2006 (MBBS). He completed his GP training in Dorset in 2015 (MRCGP). He has a broad range of experience gained from hospital posts earlier in his career; these include paediatrics, sexual health, orthopaedics and emergency medicine. In his spare time he enjoys hill-walking and is a keen amateur chef. He also enjoys playing and watching sport especially rugby and football.

Dr Philip Monnery qualified from ST George’s Hospital Medical School in 1991, Undertaking a career in the Royal Air force. Initially undertaking surgical training and specialising in Ear, Nose and Throat he became a consultant in the Military in 2006. A change in life goals meant a change to general practice in 2009. He joined Portsdown Group Practice in 2015 and maintains his special interest in ENT and is responsible for the Portsdown Travel Clinic. He is married to Alison and has three children who keep them both very busy. He likes nothing better than to relax in the garden and is frequently seen with either a chainsaw or an axe, what could go wrong!?

Dr Catherine Tuson

Qualifications - BSc, MBChB, MRCGP

Dr Cat Tuson graduated from Warwick University in 2007 and joined the Practice in 2013 having completed her GP training in the North East of England. She has a special interest in orthopaedics and joint injections and also in women’s health.
