"Situation:
Monday 18/02/19, AM: Require appointment for husband. At time of requiring an appointment husband working night shifts. In respect of this I (spouse) had to make call on husbands behalf, to request planned PM appointment for the purpose of receiving results from investigations completed. In order to do this I had to take 30 minutes of my working day waiting on telephone line.
In appreciation of the demand for appointments with the GP we were flexible in our request for an appointment, and requested a PM appointment for the GP either Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, in the knowledge that my husbands investigation results were to be available on Tuesday 19/02/19. The rational for a PM appointment is due to him working night shifts.
When I eventually got through the receptionist informed me there were no appointments for the remaining week and we would have to try again daily for an appointment . I explained my husbands working situation and, that we were anxious to ascertain the results of my husbands investigations. In response to this I informed the receptionist that I am not in a position to keep taking time out of my working day while I repeatedly attempt to get through to the GP (this requires the permission from my manager and, 30 minutes every morning within the role/function of my job is not acceptable).
Despite this rational, no appointment was offered, merely taking my telephone number for the GP to give me a call.
The present situation leaves both my husband and myself in an increasing state of anxiety as we are eager to ascertain the outcome of his health. As such this is having a great impact on our mental and emotional health and well being.
In the acknowledgement of the pressure on our GP's why would the receptionist place further demand on their workload to expect them to call me regarding this issue. Is this not more an issue that the Practice Manager would address?"
