"Every time I call the surgery it takes over 15 minutes for the reception team to answer the telephone. When I am trying to make a call at work this is so difficult to try and manage, which means where possible I try to avoid calling the surgery or make appointments online etc.
When I do speak to a receptionist they are normally polite and helpful, however they are unable to provide me with specifics like blood test results even when I explain I do have clinical knowledge and can understand them. I also work in a GP surgery and at my surgery the staff are allowed to give out this information.
When requesting a telephone call from the GP you often have to book multiple weeks in advance!! Where as at my surgery we offer same day call backs as normal.
And heaven forbid the GP does call you and you are unable to answer due to poor signal or being on the phone at work - if you ring back they will reschedule the call for another few weeks away which is not at all helpful.
However my usual GP (despite being hard to speak to) is actually a wonderful GP and very approachable and understanding. It is also handy that they offer appointments in the evenings sometimes.
It is incredibly annoying that Beacon have taken over all of Ivybridge and most of Plympton as it really limits patient choice.... As by now I would be looking to change surgery."
