"This used to be a very good GP, however I can confidently say that this is far from the case now.
The very thought of having to book an appointment fills me with dread. A receptionist once told me, âit only takes 5 minutesâ.. but one morning I rang a total of 67 times and had to take 40 minutes out of work in order to get through.. and more often than not by the time you do finally get through all the appointments have gone.
Last week I noticed my antidepressants were getting low so made a point to ring in at 8am to book an appointment. 5 days later I was still unable to get through and was out of medication so had no choice but to ring at 11:30, which is for urgent appointments.
The receptionist had little empathy and even when I told her I was out of antidepressants she told me there were no appointments. I asked what she adviced me to do and all she could say was, âring back on Mondayâ - nothing about possibly contacting 111, the Wellbeing Service or a Pharmacist.
I then asked if she quite knew the gravity of missing antidepressants, which she clearly didnât. She asked me why I hadnât put a repeat prescription in.. which I find very concerning as I thought it was common knowledge that you need reviews with GPâs in order to get more antidepressants.
She then told me, again, to ring on Monday or come into the practise. When I told her I was working 6am-10am so could not ring, she snapped at me and said, âwell it doesnât have to be Monday.â I find this worrying, she knew I was without medication but seemed in no rush to get me in, instead telling me to wait up to 5 days without them!
My motherâs had similar experiences and also agrees that the receptionists come across rude and absolutely clueless. I would very much like an apology and will be transferring surgeries."
