"The GPs that are based here are very good when you get to see them, MY problem wasnât with the GPs but with the receptionists when you call to make appointments.
I have a daughter who has asthma and is autistic she had been suffering with her breathing and coughing for 2 and a half months when I called first two weeks ago I was told to âsee the pharmacistâ we did just that, they said they wouldnât give her anything as she had been on antihistamines so she needed to be seen by a GP, so for the second time i rang I was told that âit wasnât urgent to be seen the same dayâ the lady told me the next available appointment was 2 and a half weeks away, not good enough canât wait that long, I appreciate that the staff are busy but surely their job is to book appointments NOT assess whether THEY feel a child should be seen, they arenât medically trained so isnât that a nurses job? Or what a phone appointment is supposed to be for?
I FINALLY got my daughter an appointment weeks after first asking and now sheâs on steroids because of her asthma, perhaps if the reception staff had listened when I called and not been quite so quick to flip us off the steroids wouldnât be necessary!
If there was another surgery with better reception staff nearby Iâd move the family there but unfortunately thereâs not, the older reception staff who had a caring attitude have now been replaced due to retirement by staff that are of little assistance to parents phoning to make appointments for children they feel are unwell and need to be seen.
Quite honestly I feel very aggrieved how my calls were dealt with, so much so next time sheâs unwell I should perhaps consider A&E and explain to them why I havenât gone to the GPs surgery beforehand as Iâm sure thatâd go down exceptionally well....NOT!"
