"Up until about two years ago, I had never blessed the surgery with my presence. I have since developed some fairly serious health issues. The first problem, and I will add the caveat that I am certain nobody causes problems on purpose, is trying to get an appointment. I work, and work long hours in a job where it is not always possible to leave at the drop of a hat. I simply do not have the time to be to either re-dial or be put on hold.

The second issue is that I rarely see the same person twice. Not an issue if accurate records are kept I suppose. I have seen a gentleman a couple of times who referred me to a consultant relatively quickly which was great. He didn't however do any basic preliminary checks which would have resulted in me going to a particular unit before being referred to the consultant (in a different department). I have also received prescriptions from this man in the GP's name which a PP by them! That's seriously odd in itself.

The biggest problem is the GP that I eventually saw (my title hints at the issue). By the time I saw him I had my diagnosis confirmed by the consultant (to whom I'd been referred because of his specialism) and a letter that confirmed the GP had also been informed by letter and email. When I arrived for my appointment, in an empty and deserted waiting room, I was made to wait and then the GP barked a directive to his room. Whereupon he proceeded to make light of the condition (he'd not read either the letter or the email so a part of the appointment was spent waiting for him to read them) and that he didn't think much of the diagnosis. He also performed a very cursory examination and eventually conceded a visit to ENT "might" be worthwhile. Which in my opinion should have been the first option.

He was unaware of prescriptions that had been made in his name by the trainee doctor and despite being informed that a prescription had resulted in negative side-effects, simply reissued it and told me to "keep going".

He also possess a delusion in that he thinks he is some sort of comedian and that clearly laughter is the best medicine. He is wrong. Conceited, dismissive, untidy, disorganised, and patronising, he is the reason I am changing GP after being registered at this practice for my entire life.

My experience of the NHS as a whole has been remarkable; my experience with this man? Exceedingly poor, and he is a poor advert or one of the world's most astonishing institutions."
