"Some of the reception staff are great but some are rude, dishonest and very unhelpful. There's a distinct lack of communication concerning certain rules. Somehow you're expected to know without being informed and then get the surley treatment when you don't. Little to no point in complaining to management. The last time I tried the manager actually lied to me about what had been written by my Dr. I had a copy of what he was referring to, it was only after I told him this and informed him I record all my calls that his tone and attitude changed.
The nurses I've been seen by have all been great, which is the case in most surgeries I've found, but unfortunately the Dr's have not. If it's something simple, easily treatable or you need a referral and know where to and why you're generally OK. Having a chronic illness or a mental health issue will be more than they can deal with and I've been left struggling on my own to deal with a couple of chronic diagnosis that very obviously require some help in adjusting to and coping with. Most of the GPs here have little to no patience with mental health issues. If they have you on an extremely long waiting list for an inadequate MH service they consider you treated, even if you're still waiting 2yrs later. If you don't want to take antidepressants or you say no to addictive, useless pain meds then there's nothing else they'll offer. If you continue to desperately request help, instead of waiting quietly, you'll be patronised and treated like a child.
The waiting times can be ridiculous. 3 weeks to see your own GP and that's just for a 5min phone appointment. In the surgery I've waited over an hour to be called in more times than is acceptable. Waiting that long in extreme pain, only to be treated with irritation and impatience. There is no drop in service, it's the only surgery I've registered with in England that doesn't provide this service. I'm on a medication that requires heart and BP monitoring. My GP started prescribing this medication for me over 3years ago but didn't tell me I'm supposed to be checked every 3 months because it can cause heart failure and strokes.
There's also a problem with follow ups and duty Dr's not calling. Whenever I've been told to expect a call I haven't received one.
Receiving consistently poor service, distinct lack of care coupled with the steady decrease in GP accessibility for over 7 years I really cannot recommend this surgery to anyone. The surgery cares far more about its appearance and staff than it does about its patients, both of those will always come before patient care."
