"Over a month ago, I had an ocular migraine which affected my vision and lasted for around 20 mins. It was quite a scary first encounter. After visiting my optician, they said I should see my G.P, so I called at the doctors surgery and the receptionist said I should go straight to A&E. Once I got to A&E, they said "what are you doing here ? you need to see your G.P".

In the last couple of weeks I have come down with pneumonia.
It is only by going to the A&E Dept twice, through feeling so poorly, that one of the nurse practioners up there phoned practice 2 herself and actually got me an appointment to see my G.P.
Almost 2 weeks on, due to high levels of antibiotics & steroids, I now have other health conditions which need treatment.
I spent almost 45 mins phoning the practice this morning to a busy line until finally getting an answer.
Desperately needing a follow up appointment with my pneumonia and needing additional medication, I asked if I could either see my G.P ? come and sit and wait later on in the day ? or simply get a prescription as the doctor had told me during the previous appointment, that he would see me.
Whoever I spoke to, said they didn't do "sit & wait" and that there were no appointments, then put me on hold, coming back to ask me "what did you want? A fit note?"
After explaining once again, it was agreed that they would either call me, or I would call them later in the day.
By 5pm, I went down to the practice to see if they had managed to get a prescription ready or could I see my G.P ?
I left this as late as possible as I understand they are stretched.
I could sense straight away that I was not going to get any joy from the receptionist (the same lady who sent me to A&E for the ocular migraine)even after scrolling through my notes, she advised me to phone again in the morning at 8am. I explained of my 45 min attempt to get through, how difficult it was and when you do finally get through, all the appointments have gone. I felt quite angered towards her stating that I had dealt with her before (she did not recall) and I would just go up to the A&E Dept again.
Sadly, it seems the A&E Department is becoming my new doctors surgery, where healthcare providers will listen to me, believe me and see me as long as I am happy to sit and wait for however long it takes.
On arrival at A&E, almost 2 hours later, I was seen, examined and given instructions on what to purchase over the counter. I am now on the medication that I desperately needed this morning.
I would just like the practice to know that I get no enjoyment from being unwell, it causes major inconvenience all round, so when I do phone for an appointment (or a prescription to try and make it easier on everyone) it is genuine and certainly not to waste anyone's time."
