"I rang this surgery asking if the GP could write me a prescription for some anti sickness medication for a pending cruise. I was asked to ring during a morning to get a message put in the book for the Dr to ring. I asked mu husband to ring for me to be told I needed an appointment, and to ring on Monday morning for an urgent appointment. I spoke to the surgery myself explaining that it wasn't urgent but routine only I wasn't ill but needed some tablets to prevent sickness. I did not feel that I should be using an urgent appointment that someone else who was ill could make good use of. the next routine appointment was 13 days away too late as I would already be on holiday. I asked if the GP could ring me so that I could have a conversation with him.
The Practice manager called me back to say that I had upset one of her staff. I explained again what it was that I wanted and that in no way shape or form had I shouted at the staff member. The Practice manager was very patronising on the phone, and said that when we called they were dealing with patients. Well I am a patient, and I feel that I deserve the same respect and treatment as others.
The GP's should look at training their staff to deal with patients with compassion, and respect and professionalism. The poor reputation of GP receptionist still exists at this surgery . Not all of them are rude and patronising, maybe the practice manager should take some tips from a couple of the other staff."
