"I have had a lot of difficulty on different occasions getting through to make an appointment, usually when you can get through there are no appointments for 12 days, they release emergency appointments at 2pm if you call back then you can be on phone for 30 minutes trying to get one.
The reception staff are very unfriendly and look at you like you are an utter nuisance, one in particular can stand and stare at the screen for up to 5 minutes knowing you are waiting to be served and completely ignore you, when she finally does look up it is with utter disdain.
I have decided to leave a review based on not only years of feeling like this surgery is run like a business concerned with budgets and tariffs but a few days ago my 53 year old husband who is rarely sick and hardly ever needs to see a GP fell on the ice and smashed his ribs on a step.
He went along to the gP as he was in tremendous pain and the Ibuprofen just did not seem to help with the pain. He was told by reception staff that he needed to go to A and E with a Rib injury as they will xray him to see if his lungs are compromised. He drove to A and E only to be told they do not xray ribs any more as there is no treatment for ribs, and if he wanted pain killers to go to the walk in clinic. He went round to the walk in clininc still in terrible pain and the wait to see a doctor as he was classed as non emergency was 4 to 6 hours, he was unable to sit or stand for this time in a waiting room because of the pain. He came home.
I called at 2pm to see if i could get an emergency appointment for him at the gp again, 2nd time lucky i thought, i got to speak to someone at 2.40pm and was told they had an appointment but then i was asked why? i told her and was then told No, he had to go to A and E, short of feeling like I was in ground hog day i explained the days events, she went to speak with a doctor and even the Doctor said no tell him to go to A and E, I said perhaps if he had pain killers he may be able to sit in A and E for 6 hours and I was told to drive to Samuel Johnson in Lichfield as their waiting time was less.
This happened 5 days ago, since then he has been unable to sleep in the bedroom and has slept propped up on the corner of the settee with no more than Ibuprofen.
We understand protocol and he did what they said only to find out that the hospitals will not see you for ribs and Xray them unless you cant breath from a punctured lung. The GP that you are registered with has a duty of care they are your GP to oversee your care at the first instance but this surgery would rather pass the book and send you packing elsewhere only to sit and wait in tremendous pain for 6 hours than allow you a 5 minute appointment to be seen at your registered GP.
It feels like the staff are trained to Cherry pick patients who report a condition that the doctors have no way of passing the book for. This surgery does not put patient care First as its priority."
