"Been with the surgery since I was a student. You used to be able to get a sit and wait appointment same day. You'd wait a long time but get seen. Then there were telephone consultations so maybe you could avoid the wait or otherwise be told you needed to come and wait to be seen.
Now no sit and wait. If you want to see a doctor you have to wait weeks. I asked for a telephone consultations and was told I could have one in 8 days. I said I'd been coughing up green phlegm for 5 weeks and any advice you read anywhere says to see a GP after 3 weeks (I've been traveling with work hence 5}. I was told the best I could do is call back the next day at 8am to see a nurse practitioner but I had to be quick off the mark as they go quick and I could only get one same day.
So, an asthmatic with a chest infection, wheezing, and short of breath told by someone with no medical training or access to my notes that I can wait 8 days to speak to a doctor or wait 24 hours to join a lottery to see a nurse.
This can't be right and I hope isn't true elsewhere as finally time for me to move GP practice"
