"I've been with Sun Lane for more than 30 years now and have seen many doctors come and go there.
I have always found that I could get an appointment when needed (eg. the same day) albeit for myself or my (then child) daughter. It's better not to ring at 8.30 am when the phones are extremely busy but leave it a couple of hours. Then you usually can get straight through and get an appointment at some time during the day (as the surgery is open till after 5 pm I believe).
Reception staff have also come and gone. I've had both good and not so good experiences with them, depending on the individual. Overall I would say they are good, polite, and helpful.
My husband has diabetes and receives excellent care from the diabetes nurse.
My mother is elderly now and can be a little difficult. I had to call a doctor out to her at home recently. The receptionist was very helpful and my mother had a visit within a couple of hours. The doctor gave her a thorough examination and couldn't find anything wrong. Then the following week my mother wanted another home visit (!) The receptionist was very helpful and tactful. My mother had a visit by a member of the Home Visit team late that afternoon. He was very kind and very thorough in his examination. Despite there not being anything much wrong, this was followed by several follow-up visits and phone calls by a nurse. She gave my mother health instructions such as drinking water regularly, eating properly and taking her tablets correctly. This seems to have worked. I can't thank everyone enough for their care and attention in what is an extremely busy healthcare system.
It is so easy to criticise our NHS but in my experience when the care is needed it is given.I have a friend from the US who says that the healthcare system out there is a nightmare and expensive. She praises our NHS. I don't think we realise how fortunate we are."
