"Ringing to make an appointment is diabolical. You can wait for 10/15 minutes and get cut off. Some telephone options stop being available before the time the recorded message states. When you do get through you are often told to ring back the following day as there are no appointments and this can go on for several days. You can rarely see the same doctor twice.
Even when a doctor has requested that you make an appointment, as in my fathers (who is 87) case when he received a letter requesting that he do so, you are told âsorry there are no appointments available,ring backâ. It took him several days and only got one when he asked to speak to an administrator. The appointment was still several weeks later.
My partners father is 98yrs old and very unsteady on his feet so if an appointment is made he may cancel on the day as he doesnât feel able to get to the surgery. We requested a home visit for a nurse to give him a flu jab. This never happened, consequently he is now in hospital having had flu, a chest infection and pneumonia.
The doctors if you can get to know one, are generally really good but goodness, you really need to sort this surgery out."
