"I moved from another local GP surgery about 15 years ago after losing confidence in the doctor's responses to a developing, long term condition. I have never looked back and my family are also patients at Old Priory.
At all times I have found the admin staff polite and helpful even though they are always hard at work. Most of the time, I only need the surgery for repeat prescriptions and have always received regular blood tests to support this. They work well with a local chemist in saving me time so that I only have to turn up there to collect my filled prescription.
When I have explained any urgent needs to reception staff whether over the phone or in person, they have done their best to provide me with an emergency appointment whether in person or by telephone. For non urgent appointments, I use the online service which has worked well for both doctor and nursing staff.
I am pleased at last, to be able to comment on the medical staff. I have had regular blood tests with the nurses and found them to be competent and very pleasant. All of the GP's I have seen over my time with the practice, have provided me with excellent 'care' and it did feel like they cared. They have been scrupulous in their treatment of me, listening to my medical problems and providing me with fast and appropriate services either from themselves or by referral to specialist services and for further tests. They have supported me in my decisions where appropriate, e.g. stopping one long term medication when I felt unsure as to whether I needed it, I feel like we work in partnership over my health. Repeatedly, I have felt that they have gone the extra mile for me.
Obviously over the years, I have also observed the treatment of other patients during my visits. At all times, I have observed courtesy by staff, despite at times this not being what a few individuals have shown to them. I as do they, realise that some people react and behave badly when ill. I have also observed doctors who have provided much needed emergency care.
In recent years, I have spent regular time in another, poorer country where medical support is severely limited for the poorest. This has made my appreciation of what we in the UK can receive for free from the NHS increase even more. In times where the NHS has been insufficiently funded, I think this surgery provides excellent care."
