"I usually accompany my mother to her GP appointment as her English is not too fluent and because I am a medical student I take an interest in her health and well being.
We saw a gp, who did not bother taking an accurate history from her and was not being empathetic to her concerns.
She did also have a gynaecological problem that she wanted further advise and a solution to solver her problems and he didnât address that because one problem per appointment- which I understand. He did call the receptionist to book us in with a female gp with an obs and gynae diploma.
The receptionist was very rude and told us to call in on a Wednesday to book an appointment even though the go we had seen had told her to book my mother in for the next available appointment but the two receptionist were very dismissive and decided to call another patient and speak to them with me standing there mid conversation with her.
The receptionist were all very under trained; I really donât understand how the receptionists are trained at this surgery. Being a medical student, having had a gp placement and being a patient at another practise as well I was shocked to learn that none of the receptionists were aware of what special interests the GPs working in the practise had. I mean if youâre booking patients in or dealing with queries related to a gynaecology issue and donât know which doctor in your practise has the DRCOG qualification attached to their name is rather suprising and then to say to a patient that itâs not your job role to know what special interests/qualifications a GP has in the practise.
Also I have accompanied my mother to two appointments in this practise in this new year and for both appointments we had to wait over an hour to be seen by the GP.
I am surprised as to how to this GP practise is still up and running and why cqc visits have not tried to make amends to the system, maybe because a lot of the patients are not too fluent in English so donât know how to complain?! Sitting in the waiting hour I could hear from other patients complaining about the wait also."
