"I have had psoriasis for 21 years and, for most of that time, have used Dovobet to keep it under control. More recently I have been prescribed Dovonex, which I prefer to use as this is a non-steroid ointment. 2 months ago I received Dovobet instead of the requested Dovonex. I read online that Dovonex was being discontinued, but this is a brand name for Calcipotriol so, I requested Dovonex or Calcipotriol. The pharmacist called me to query my request and I explained this to him. He suggested I try a moisturiser and also prescribed Dermol 500. Moisturisers can give temporary relief, but do not do anything to keep the psoriasis under control - I need Dovonex or similar every day. Last Monday I was in the bathroom and missed a call from the surgery. I called immediately and was told the pharmacist had tried to contact me and wanted me to have blood tests and leave a urine sample - I had blood tests twice at the end of last year. I then saw he had left a message on my voicemail which just asked me to call back, so I called the surgery again, but was told I could not speak to the pharmacist. I called into the surgery on the Tuesday but the pharmacist was not there. I was told my prescription had been sent to the Chemist, with the exception of the Dovonex/Calcipotriol, and I would not be able to have that until I had further blood tests and a medication review - which again I only had last October. The last time he told me I needed a medication review I went to see the NP who told me I did not need one. This is totally irresponsible. I booked this week off work as I have so many other commitments and do not have time for blood tests or yet another medication review, and I have been left with nothing to keep my psoriasis under control - it is on my hands, elbows, lower back, etc. I am so angry about this as it means I have to return to work next week, and will just have to hope that my hands are not too painful and I will be able to hold a pen to write shorthand, and type. Surely the ointment could have been prescribed for now, with a request that I had these tests/review before next month, even though I cannot see any reason why. Psoriasis cannot be cured, only treated so it is kept under control. I have in the past been to the dermatology clinic at Broadgreen and it was established then that the only other option was a tablet, which would require blood tests every 2 weeks as this tablet can affect the lungs and liver. I decided against that and said I would keep to the ointment. I did not take the forms for my blood tests."
