"My consultant oncologist wrote to the head of the surgery last month with a detailed and straightforward request for a home blood pressure monitor to be given to me and with details of how my treatment was proceeding. The surgery didn't contact me, but I saw my designated GP last week to discuss (appointment made by me). I assumed this would be a very easy matter for the surgery to deal with. a) The GP had clearly not read the oncologist's letter before speaking to me (I established it had been scanned in to my notes prior to the appointment). b) She told me there was at least a 3 week waiting list for monitors (despite the supposed merits of merging of the practices). c) She told me to go out and buy my own (I have a terminal cancer). I queried the cost of that and she, somewhat reluctantly, called one of the reception desks to doublecheck availability. The receptionist couldn't help. I then suggested she try the other reception desk, but they didn't answer the phone. I left with no monitor, a promise from the GP that she would call me again this week and a scrappy little bit of paper on which the GP had scribbled basic info on taking my blood pressure. I had to call reception myself afterwards to doublecheck the facts (the wait is not 3 weeks) and go to the trouble of reporting the problem via the website. I need a GP who is (ideally) supportive and positive. Failing that, neutral would do. But negativity is not what I need."

Dr Ko Ko Laing qualified in 1989, his previous surgery in Victory Road merged with the Portsdown Group in April 2010. He is a highly experienced GP, is based in Kingston Crescent Surgery he has a number of special interest which includes medicine, rheumatology and joint injections. He is a keen tennis player and also enjoys travel.

Dr Kipgen qualified from Barts and the London Medical School in 2006 (MBBS). He completed his GP training in Dorset in 2015 (MRCGP). He has a broad range of experience gained from hospital posts earlier in his career; these include paediatrics, sexual health, orthopaedics and emergency medicine. In his spare time he enjoys hill-walking and is a keen amateur chef. He also enjoys playing and watching sport especially rugby and football.

Dr Philip Monnery qualified from ST George’s Hospital Medical School in 1991, Undertaking a career in the Royal Air force. Initially undertaking surgical training and specialising in Ear, Nose and Throat he became a consultant in the Military in 2006. A change in life goals meant a change to general practice in 2009. He joined Portsdown Group Practice in 2015 and maintains his special interest in ENT and is responsible for the Portsdown Travel Clinic. He is married to Alison and has three children who keep them both very busy. He likes nothing better than to relax in the garden and is frequently seen with either a chainsaw or an axe, what could go wrong!?

Dr Catherine Tuson

Qualifications - BSc, MBChB, MRCGP

Dr Cat Tuson graduated from Warwick University in 2007 and joined the Practice in 2013 having completed her GP training in the North East of England. She has a special interest in orthopaedics and joint injections and also in women’s health.
