"For the past five weeks I have been suffering with an unknown virus that has caused some very visible and awful symptoms all over my body.

On each day of the first week I was ringing *my* GP surgery, hoping to get an appointment with *my* doctor. The surgery will tell you to call at 8:30 in the morning, but when I call them at 8:25, they are already "fully booked". Seven days in a row.

So with each day when I am desperate to be seen by one of the doctors I am used to, for a very real risk to my health, I have been told to visit either the walk-in centre or, if I'm lucky, I will get an appointment in a practice in one of the other three corners of the city - all of which a very long way away.

After three weeks and twelve doctors and nurses all poking, prodding, looking in worry I am finally referred to the hospital. Brilliant, I thought, because I can completely bypass this whole debacle now. Unfortunately that wasn't the case, because on the day of my urgent dermatology appointment (made within three days), after having my biopsy (a surgical procedure!), I was told I will need to make an appointment at my GP surgery to have my stitches taken out. They were able to provide me with an appointment, to my shock, but it was *not* at my own surgery, but one several miles away from me. Whatever, I thought, because I'll just change surgeries after this is all over.

Unfortunately, however, that appointment was cancelled due to a nurse sickness (I don't blame the nurse). With this appointment down, it soon led to the receptionist telling me - again - that they are fully booked. So yet again I was made to go to the walk-in.

I am shocked that my health problem has escalated so quickly and, despite this, how reluctant, it seems, that my own surgery wishes to see me.

I don't understand it really. What is the point in being registered with a surgery if they can't, or won't, even see me?

They have done me absolutely no favours this time around. For five weeks I have tried and for five weeks I have failed to get even a quick five-minute appointment for some stitches! I wish I could give the number of how many times I have tried. I don't have that. But the truth is this whole debacle has been beyond shock.

Especially as the urgent dermatology appointment was made because of a concern that the condition I had was very rare and potentially life-threatening.

This is bad on a whole different level from "bad customer (or patient) service" reviews."
