"I have feel compelled to write to you in regards to your policy of not receiving prescription requests via email as a scanned copy but only fax, post or by hand is your preference. I work within a large NHS Hospital in the South of Liverpool from 08.00 - 18.00 so dropping the prescription request to your surgery is not really an option especially if I have an urgent request.

My request is for champix as I am trying my hardest to quit smoking and require them asap as I will run out 48 hours after I have sent this review! I would definitely have got them sooner only the ‘Stop Smoking’ van only attends our hospital on a Weds morning (today) and if I send via the post, take in the 48 hour prescription turnaround, return the prescription in SAE to me that is almost 1 week! This is not a cost effective method for me as I would have to pay for a first class stamp to send the request to you and a first class stamp for you to return it to me.

Your other option of hand delivering it to your surgery has caused me an issue. I did have someone who was available to drop it off to your surgery this afternoon but I was informed the surgery was about to close for the day - it was 12 noon. I now have no-one who can drop it off during the day as we all work full time. Nowhere is it stated you are closed Weds afternoon – according to the NHS website and google searches you are open until 18.30!

Faxing is also not an option as our NHS hospital has removed all fax machines as a cost saving exercise and use email scans instead – I know of not one single person I can call upon to use their fax machine.

I have the online patient access app – could there be a facility to send the scanned request via this route?

Surely as an NHS practice you should consider all options and not only your preferred!

Please look at bringing your surgery into the 21st century and considering your employed patients who do not have the luxury of being flexible and ‘dropping’ into the surgery during your office hours (which are also mine) to submit a request which could have easily been scanned to you in seconds."
