"After moving to Saltburn, I was initially leery of registering with a new surgery.
However my first appointment went extremely well. The Doctor allowed me to express my health concerns fully and listened with genuine interest and empathy; resulting in a much needed referral. I was more than pleasantly surprised at the time I was allowed and did not feel pressured to leave before I had finished.
Feeling that a professional has listened and fully understood the patients issues is, in my opinion, the most important role of the Doctor; seek first to understand.
My recent interaction, which has prompted me to write this, was also very positive.
I called the surgery, the Doctor called me back within about an hour and we discussed options. I followed through with the instructions and am pleased to report that I have been seen by the right department at James Cook. I also have a follow up at the Redcar Hospital next week.
My Doctor called me this morning and enquired as to how I had gotten on yesterday. Outstanding! Yes, this is what should happen, but how often are we constantly disappointed in today's budget slashing over worked and under appreciated world?
More importantly is the "adult adult" relationship I feel I have with my Doctor; many insist on playing "adult child" and one is often left feeling patronized and disempowered. Dr J is unquestionably the most approachable Doctor I have had.
In a job which provides a never ending stream of: distressed, depressed, dissatisfied and disillusioned - she gets my vote."
