"Appointments at this surgery are a joke. Having working within a GP surgery for the past 5 years I'm disgusted with the way the surgery deals with emergencies and routine appointments. 5 weeks for a telephone appointment for an 8 year old boy who is being sick several times a day for a few weeks and has stomach ache with previous lactose intollerance. Who is being sent home from school and is pretty miserable most of time at the moment. And today I tried to book an appointment to speak or see a doctor for my 4 week old baby who has d&v and hives and isn't keeping feeds down. To be told I can't even speak to a doctor and will have to go to Rainhill clinic tonight. The phone lines are constantly not working and cut off for the first 30 calls, then the wait on hold is huge and appointments are gone or they didn't have any? I am now moving surgery's after giving them another chance after leaving my 8 year old without inhalers for a month (after an emergency move over 160 miles away) as the receptionist would not put a prescription for ventolin in untill he had been seen but they could not offer a new patient appointment for a month. Awful service especially when dealing with children. I understand the strain the NHS is under but better planning and using a triage system would solve this. Why not have a triage nurse on in the mornings, employ a clinical pharmacist or allow the doctors extra slots where they can bring in patients via telephone appointments if they feel they need to be seen. Sometimes advice over the phone is all that is needed and a parent can implement the advice at home. Simple changes and more helpful reception staff (some not all) could turn this surgery around. Because unfortunately it is that side that let's it down as once you are able to see or speak to a GP or nurse at spinney they are fantastic but it is getting to that point"
