"I was very disappointed about a letter from the surgery. The letter complained about the DNA of a patient, I had called the surgery to inform them and explain that the patient would not be able to attend due to the fact that he had died over the weekend. Just to add insult to injury,the person taking my call did not seem to know how to deal with this information, and was very abrupt . Given that I was already very upset by the bereavement I felt a little more compassion should have been evident.
I feel perhaps there should be some staff training to improve the way in which you handle information about the death of a patient and those who are trying to impart that information."
