"Phoned for nurse appointment in advance of arrival. Told I would have to call in and register first. Explained that I only arrived afternoon before appointment was needed and that may be too late to get an appointment. Told they would fit me in somehow. In over 10 years with open leg ulcers I have needed dressings changed at least 5 times per year when away from home and only once previously been asked to register first. On that occasion an appointment was found but this time I was offered one appointment at a time I would be unable to attend and no alternative. Attitude of receptionist both on the phone and at the counter was very much âtake it or leave itâ.
Called in at Minor Injuries Unit at neighbouring Rutland Memorial Hospital but they had no nurse in attendance. Phoned Empingham Medical Centre (equidistance from where I was staying) but they had no appointment available. Travelled home and attended pre-arranged nurse appointment 4 days later (interval included weekend), well beyond the time interval recommended and practised by my nurse."

Dr Ko Ko Laing qualified in 1989, his previous surgery in Victory Road merged with the Portsdown Group in April 2010. He is a highly experienced GP, is based in Kingston Crescent Surgery he has a number of special interest which includes medicine, rheumatology and joint injections. He is a keen tennis player and also enjoys travel.

Dr Kipgen qualified from Barts and the London Medical School in 2006 (MBBS). He completed his GP training in Dorset in 2015 (MRCGP). He has a broad range of experience gained from hospital posts earlier in his career; these include paediatrics, sexual health, orthopaedics and emergency medicine. In his spare time he enjoys hill-walking and is a keen amateur chef. He also enjoys playing and watching sport especially rugby and football.

Dr Philip Monnery qualified from ST George’s Hospital Medical School in 1991, Undertaking a career in the Royal Air force. Initially undertaking surgical training and specialising in Ear, Nose and Throat he became a consultant in the Military in 2006. A change in life goals meant a change to general practice in 2009. He joined Portsdown Group Practice in 2015 and maintains his special interest in ENT and is responsible for the Portsdown Travel Clinic. He is married to Alison and has three children who keep them both very busy. He likes nothing better than to relax in the garden and is frequently seen with either a chainsaw or an axe, what could go wrong!?

Dr Catherine Tuson

Dr Cat Tuson graduated from Warwick University in 2007 and joined the Practice in 2013 having completed her GP training in the North East of England. She has a special interest in orthopaedics and joint injections and also in women’s health.
