"Called to make an appointment. The first available was for 2 weeks time. I asked if it was possible to have a telephone appointment as the matter was fairly urgent, I was told yes and given a time when the doctor would call back the following day.
When called. I expressed that I needed to start back on my anti depressant medication as my depression had worsened since coming off my medication and it was now at an extremely low point. The doctor said I would need to make an appointment to come in. I explained that I really couldnât wait 2 weeks to start and asked if there was any emergency alternative or walk clinics that could help. I was bluntly told no, you need to call back and make an appointment. I was left stressed and feeling worthless. I was treated with distain and complete apathy to my situation.
Luckily I have good support at home and I was in a position that I was able to pay for a private consultation elsewhere and started medication the same day. During the private consultation I actually broke down in tears with relief. Something I have never done in a doctors surgery before.
Now a month on and doing much better I am now able to reflect on my experience. My biggested concern is that if I had not had the private option available or the support at home the way I was spoken to and treated may well have sent me over the edge.
I am shocked by the acute lack of empathy and even knowledge demonstrated by this practice in relation to mental health. I have now changed practice"
